A large brown bear sow (Urus arctos), sometimes called a grizzly bear, walks through the low sedge and grass along the coast of Lake Clark National Park in Alaska with her cubs in tow. Although brown bears and grizzly bears are technically the same species, brown bears grow significantly larger and live along the coast, feeding heavily on marine species such as salmon and clams. Grizzly bears (Ursus arctos horribilis), on the other hand, are inland species, are typically much smaller, and are named for their silver tipped, or grizzled, fur.
